The Long Winter

Today only you can go here to get a free audio download of Laura IngallsWilder's "The Long Winter." Sounds like an old timey type broadcast. Too fun! I love Laura Ingalls! And very appropriate for our weather today. It's cold and flurry-ing. Enjoy!

January 1, 2010

Where has the time gone? I think time goes faster the older I get. So much happened in 2009. I was looking through pictures yesterday and was amazed how much had happened just since we went to Disney! But I love the busy-ness (most days. There are some days that I want to just do a little bit of nothing.) The busy-ness means I have a great life. I love the age/stage that my kids are at. (again-most days). They are funny, somewhat independent (one wants to be more independent than she needs to be), can help around the house, can feed/dress/potty alone, are fun to play/talk with (again................well you get the idea), and are just darn cute. Yes, we may have rough days (can you believe that?) but I wouldn't trade it for the world! And my husband. It's hard to believe that we will have been married 11 years in April and together for 15 years in August! Once again, I feel like time is flying.

OK. All that to say, I'm excited to see what this year has in store. I have 2 specific New Year's resolutions. Since I've never really made any resolutions, my first it to keep my resolutions. No, just kidding. #1: Paint C's room. Not too long ago, he mentioned that his room was boring compared to K's. And it is. Hers is green and pink and has flowers. His has white walls. So I'm going to paint it. I HATE TO PAINT! And yes, I am yelling. And to top it all off, he wants one wall Yankees (I'd like to pinstripe it and put the symbol in the middle) and the other wall Colts (I'm thinking--blue stripe with "Colts" in white down the middle). #2: To loose some weight. How much? I really don't care. "Some." How's that for specific? Ask me on December 31st how much I've lost. By the way, I've already started on this one.

I think I'm done being sentimental now. I hope everyone had a great holiday season (from Thanksgiving all the way to the New Year). We have a few more days before we have to get back to reality. Daddy took Monday off.

Happy New Year to all my many, many, many .................... Ok. Nevermind.

C's birthday party

I know I'm a little behind in blogging but timing, well isn't everything.

This year C wanted a Indianapolis Colts themed birthday party (our pro football team for those who don't know). When looking for a date to have the party, Daddy saw that there was a Colt game on TV on December 17th. So we decided to have the party that night and then invite everyone to stay and watch the game.

Daddy actually made the invites and they turned out AWESOME!

Aunt T made the "cakes" (a whole bunch of cupcakes) and they looked and tasted wonderful--as usual.

We had some great snacks: chips and dip and meatball subs (besides cake and ice cream of course).

Quite a few people showed up (10 I think?) and a few stayed to watch the game.

C got some really good presents: a Brain Quest game, Phase 10 twist, Guess Who (the kids LOVE this game), some new Star Wars guys, a Wii Star Wars game, a Hess truck, a huge Superman comic book and some new slippers. But not just ordinary slippers. They are Crocs and they are Colts slippers. I found them for a VERY good deal on crocs.com.

Oh and by the way, the Colts beat the Jaguars.

The Princess and the Frog

While C and Daddy went to the Star Wars Concert, K girl and I went to see the new Disney movie--The Princess and the Frog. Very cute story line, but I really didn't like the movie. I felt it should have been rated more than just G. K was actually scared in some parts. What I didn't like was the "bad person" in this movie. Every Princess Disney movie has one. This one was a voodoo doctor that had a voodoo doll and pin, masks that "came to life as shadows," and friends "on the other side" that he talked to. Voodoo magic is very real. I had an "inkling" that there would be some stuff like this in the movie--from the previews, but I wasn't prepared for the amount. There is a lot. In my head, the voodoo aspect stands out more than the story line. But not so for K girl. She talks about the movie, but only the frogs and her dress and her crown and the alligator. I'm thankful for that. I actually don't think we will even buy this one. Very sad. I'm extremely disappointed in Disney. They could have taken a very cute story line and made a very cute movie.

Why isn't this illegal?

Another name for this post: 106% of your daily allowance.

My sister and her husband sent us a Cheesecake Factory cheesecake for Christmas this year. A Godiva chocolate cheesecake. What a neat idea! Something different. And it is YUMMY!

Before we ate it, we made the mistake of looking at the nutrition info on the side. Big mistake. Take a look at this!

When I saw how many grams of fat were in once slice, I told Daddy he had to take a picture of it. In my words, "that's blog-worthy." Seriously?!?!?! 69 grams of fat in once slice!!!!!! Why isn't that illegal? For as much as they focus on how fat Americans are, why do they (government?) allow companies to make foods like this!

Rest assured. If you notice, the entire cheesecake is 6 serving slices. We didn't even eat one slice between the 4 of us. I thought it was very good. Daddy and C aren't big chocolate people, so they thought it was so-so. K didn't like the texture, but that's typical for her.

Thank you sissy for the yummy cheesecake! Remind me to do a few extra crunches next week.
