Crayons

If you ever attended Pensacola Christian School, raise your right hand. No, your other right hand.

If you ever were a TA at PCA/PCS raise your hand.

Everyone remember the crayons that were used in kindergarten? They are flat on one side and kinda rounded on the top. Anti-roll crayons.

I asked my mom to go to the bookstore at the academy and buy 3 boxes of the crayons for kindergarten for K next year for school. I think she will be very picky and want everything just like the kids "in" school have.

Here is what my mom sent me. This is what they now sell at the academy bookstore. Still anti-roll. But now a tri-angular shape. More anti-roll??? I think their reasoning may be that the triangle shape will teach them better how to hold a writing utensil (for lack of a better word).

Interesting. Does anyone else care? OK. Thanks for humoring me.

I want a nap!

How come kids hate taking naps but adults would give anything some days to take a nap?

K is going through that "I'm almost ready to give up my nap" stage. Some days she is OK if she misses it. The next day she'll sleep. The next day she won't sleep during her nap but she will fall asleep while watching Cinderella.

Ouch!

DISCLAIMER: If you are in any way squeamish, do NOT read this post. Especially don't look at the pictures.

I almost hate to do this post. My poor little boy. And it's kinda my fault.

Let me start by reminding you of the Aesop Fable "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" That boy lives at our house (C). He hasn't learned how to "rate" his boo boos. They are all the same magnitude of wailing.

Sunday afternoon, C and K were in C's room playing. Somehow his curtain came "unattached" and was gaping. When C laid down for a nap, the sun was shining in his face. Here is where "my fault" comes in. I decided to put a 5 pound exercise weight on the shelf to hold the curtain in place.

Fast forward to later that afternoon, he was upstairs playing by himself. Daddy and I were downstairs watching TV. And we heard a crash and the wailing began. But this time it did sound a little different. So I started up the stairs to calm the wailer down. As I got to the bottom of the stairs, C started down the stairs with blood gushing. The weight had fallen off the shelf and landed right on C's face. When I saw the gashes on his face I knew we would be visiting the ER.

Daddy helped put pressure on them to slow the blood flow and I called friends (M & Green Socks) to come get K (so thankful for awesome friends like that!). Daddy and I got C in the car and headed out to the ER. On the way to the ER, C threw up 3 times--which elevated his "status" once we got to the ER. (Funny side note: I had nothing to catch "it" in except an old pull -up of K's and a pair of pants left in the car. Both went in the trash once we got there.)

Here is my very brave boy before stitches. This picture does not do the gashes justice. They were deep. He had a CAT scan and everything was fine. He has been fine ever since. The gashes were clean cuts and were able to be stitched together very well. He probably will have some scarring but mommy and Vitamin E are gonna see what we can do about that.

Because it was a head wound, the doctor ordered a CT scan. The machine kinda bothered C until he saw that I would be right there and he didn't have to go in the whole way. The stitches bothered him more because it felt strange. He said they hurt a little but not much. He was so brave through it all. He ended up with 2 stitches in his nose, 6 over one eye, and 7 over the other. (It took C quite awhile to add those up so I'll help you guys--that's a total of 15).Sorry if this post seems "ramble-y" This all happened Sunday around 4 pm. Monday night we had HORRIBLE storms here and spent about 45 minutes in the bathroom due to the tornado sirens. Plus the kids ended up sleeping in our bed two different times for a few hours each time. Needless to say, we got very little sleep. Then I had to babysit my 3 "extras" today. It has been quite the interesting 2 days.

All this to say, my little boy was so brave and is just fine. He gets the stitches out Friday. I love my little boy.

Chuck E Cheese

As an end of the year "congrats" we let C pick where he wanted to eat for dinner. He picked Chuck E Cheese. yeah rah

Actually we went early enough in the afternoon (around 3) that it wasn't very busy. By the time it got busy, we were ready to leave.
I actually think their pizza is awful but the kids had fun playing the games. Two different times K won the "big one" on a game where she got 125 tickets! Pure luck.
And of course the kids to pick out crap I mean prizes with their tickets.
K got all "jewelry" See that bug that C got? I put it in his glasses case, so that night when he went to put his glasses away, it scared him. I'm such a mean mommy.

Children's Museum

We went to the Children's Museum Thursday. I forgot my camera. Very sad. So instead of boring you with what we did and having no pictures to prove it, I told the kids that we would go again in the near future. AND MAKE SURE WE TOOK THE CAMERA. The camera now lives in my purse. So it will go everywhere with me. I'll bore you after we take our next trip.

Updates

I have a few different topics to update you on, so I thought I'd combine it all into one post. Hopefully it won't be very long.

#1:C's baseball games
There are 15 games in a season.
His team has won 7.
His team has lost 4.
He has 2 to make up due to rain/cancellation, plus the last 1 on his schedule.
He played 1/2 of one Tuesday night before they called the game due to impending weather. And let me tell you, it let loose! It was horrible driving home. They were losing when we left.
There is an upcoming really cool post about one of his games. Check back.

#2: my garden
Is exploding!
I have 9 tomatoes and a bazillion buds.
My lettuce is getting close; my carrots and onions look good.
Everything should be ready around July 4th.
I'm thinking of making homemade salsa with all my produce. Anyone have a good recipe?

#3: Summer reading programs (go here too)
This year both kids are participating in various programs.
I think I've entered them in 6: 2 libraries, Barnes & Noble, Half Price Books, Pizza Hut, HE Buddy (never heard of them before; we'll see how it goes)
We went to Half Price Books the other night and the kids spent the first 2 of their earned gift cards.
Funny story: K bought a coloring book. She is on "crayon restriction" for coloring on the floor-AGAIN! Seriously?!

#4: Daddy's late birthday
Since we had company during Daddy's birthday week, I didn't have a chance to get him a present and we didn't get to celebrate with just the 4 of us.
So one day we decided to have a "surprise party" waiting for him when he got home.
We had balloons and a few presents for him.
And a cookie. The best part, I think.
He was surprised and it was bunches of fun.

VBS-The Egypt files

This years VBS curriculum was from Answers in Genesis. I really liked it. I thought it was very well organized and they gave you everything: papers, a skit, teaching info, snack ideas, game ideas, even the design ideas for the face painting. I was impressed.I just had to show you this picture. To start off the entire week, two guys had to open and EAT a banana with their feet. Of course the kids loved it.

And here is my illustrious pastor. Do you recognize him? Every night an offering was collected. If the kids brought in $400 Pastor Monte would get a pie in the face. The kids brought in $500! His son surprised him with a pie on the back of the head while his wife got him in the face. Then she kindly gave him a mowhawk. The kids loved it! So did most of the adults. What a good sport.

Our VBS always starts Sunday afternoon and finishes Thursday night. Three out of the 4 nights I was late to VBS. Monday night I went to sign the kids up for swim lessons (very un-efficient way to sign up, but that's another story). Tuesday my babysitting kids don't leave until at least 6:20. Wednesday C had a game. He played for one hour and then we left. (We still don't know if they won or not). Thursday we were all on time and all got to ride in the same car!

Honey Bee Farm

A friend from another church set up a field trip to a "local" honey bee farm. Not very local for me; it took me at least an hour to get there. I thought the tour was so interesting, but then again, I love honey! I think the kids liked it OK. They at least learned something out of it. We learned about the different types of bees (queen, workers, and drones) and the different types of workers (there are 4). We learned why smoke works to calm them down. We learned that bee keeper suits are NOT "sting-proof." Interesting.

The kids got to make a bees wax candle and I filled up a honey bear. YUMMO. I also bought some honey teryaki marinade. I can eat that stuff straight out of the bottle.
After the tour, we went to a park and ate lunch together. It was hard to get them to eat lunch since the kids only wanted to play on the park. It was a long day but tons of fun.

New bikes: Bike #2

Bike #2: Isn't really a new bike but since DADDY TOOK C'S TRAINING WHEELS OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's kinda like a new bike. Daddy said that before he would take the wheels off C needed elbow pads and knee pads. I found a set at Wal Mart that also included finger-less gloves. So Sunday afternoon, Daddy took his training wheels off. He did really good; much better than I ever thought he would. But Monday--he just took off! He was able to ride the length of 6 houses before crashing, I mean stopping. He was so proud of himself! He just can't get started by himself.

The first video shows day one of his riding attempt. The second video is the 2nd day when he went whizzing on by. And just because, there is a little of K girl riding by too.

New Bikes: Bike #1

Bike #1: This is truly a new bike. K girl got a new bike for her birthday (a few weeks early) thanks to Grandma. She had had one that had been given to us by a neighbor (left over from a garage sale). It worked for about a year. A few weeks ago the seat broke off and was not able to be fixed. So Grandma offered to buy her one for her birthday. So we went and got it the other night from Wal Mart. It's got lots of things going for it: it's purple and it's Hello Kitty. She is so proud of that bike! Memorial Day morning she could not wait to go out and ride it!

Memorial Day Weekend

We had such an awesome Memorial Day weekend! It's always nice to have a long weekend with Daddy home. Friday night we played outside with the kids for a very long time. Saturday we set up the pool-finally. It took quite some time to blow it up and then fill it with water. And man, was that water cold! We played some video games while we were waiting for it to fill up. Then we all sat or splashed in the pool. Saturday evening we did a little shopping (check out the new bike posts to come). Sunday between churches, we let the kids ride bikes (again on the bike posts). Sunday night after church we had a VBS meeting (a forever meeting in case you were wondering). Monday we did some more video games, more bike, more pool. Just had a great time spending time together as a family. Monday evening we celebrated C being done with school (see Chuck E Cheese post in the next few days)

Sad to say we didn't take many pictures all weekend! (except for the bikes--future posts and Chuck E Cheese--future posts) Here is one picture that Daddy took with his phone. Pretty cute kids if I do say so myself.

PS: I have many posts coming up and they are so out of date order. I've been blogging just as I've had time. Therefore the longer posts will be done whenever I have that much time to do them.
