Summer Reading

Both of the kids did a few summer reading programs this year (C was the only one who did them last year). Once again, we (they) ended up with some really nice prizes.

2 Library programs: both of the libraries had basically the same prizes. They were mostly coupons for free kids meals (Olive Garden, Bob Evans), free desserts (Applebee's, Chik Fil A, Dairy Queen) tickets to the Indiana Fever (WNBA). One of the libraries had a free ticket for the fair (so a total of 2 tickets). Really nice cuz K gets in free; therefore we only had to buy one ticket.

Barnes & Noble: Only C did this program. It was very specific as to the age of the participants. He got a free book; I think it was about Thomas Jefferson.

Half Price Books: both the kids did this program. For every week that they read 15 minutes 5 days, they got a $3 gift card. The first time we went to spend their money C got two books and K ended up with 5 (I'm missing one in each picture) I think they each spent $6. Daddy also used one $3 card to buy a CD.

The next time we went to spend money, it was just the kids and I. They got almost $44 worth of books, I bought one DVD, we didn't spend any money out of pocket, and I still have one $3 card to spend!

All together I think we spent $6 out of pocket and got $62 worth of "stuff" and still have $3 to spend! Plus I think it's good for them to read (or be read to) all summer. I'm pretty proud of them (and us since we had to read to K).

I would like a new fridge please

Check out this blog
http://www.angiesgiveawaysandreviews.blogspot.com/

My SIL had it on her website and I thought I'd try. I could win a $200 gift card to Best Buy! And if I win it, my husband will help me spend it ON A FRIDGE! (Sorry honey!)

I get another entry into the contest for blogging about it. I do want to say one thing: NO ONE ELSE ENTER PLEASE. I want to win. :)

Here's why I said I need a new fridge:
First: IT IS LOUD! There are many nights while watching TV, I swear it is going to walk out to the living room and say something to us (maybe it is and I just can't understand it)
Second: It doesn't seal properly. That dollar bill trick?--yeah, I can pull it out no problem.
Third: It is too small. I don't think they make a smaller one except for a studio apartment or a college dorm. Thanksgiving--I use our garage for an additional "fridge." Thank goodness it gets cold where I live.
Fourth: There are dings on it from the nearby pantry door (which has no door stop--another long story)
Fifth: I never win anything! How cool would it be to say I won!!!!!!!!!!!! (no pun intended)

So go check out her website, but don't register.

Reading Fun!

I've got C signed up in 3 different reading contests this summer. The nice thing is, they kinda over lap. The 1st is through Half Price Books. He has to read for 15 minutes per day for 5 days per week. For every week he completes this, he gets a $3 gift card for Half Price Books. The 2nd is through Barnes & Noble. He has to complete a "journal" of 8 books (name, author, favorite part of the book). Once he completes his journal, he gets a free book (from a list) from B&N. He can do 2 of these journals this summer. The 3rd one is through one of our local libraries. I have to log every book he reads online. For every 10 books he reads he gets prizes and gets entered into a raffle. So far he has read 26 books, gotten 1 free book, and gotten $6 to spend! I'm pretty proud of him! I usually have to remind him to read (he is just 6), but he usually does it without complaint and sometimes it's longer than 15 minutes. I hope he's enjoying it. I'm enjoying seeing him read. You go, C!

While K and I were at the shower the other night, Daddy took C to Half Price books to spend some of his money. He got 2 books: one on the planets and one on dangerous animals. A little more "educational" than I expected but still nice books. (I think they missed the BoxCar children type books-maybe next time). "On the way home" (it isn't really) they got smoothies from Cold Stone. YUM! They saved me a little to try once we all got home. YUMMO! I'm glad they had fun.
