Today's Post brought to you by the letter "S"

My blog savvy friend challenged all her readers to a "thankful game." I have to post about 10 of my favorite things that start with the letter "S." If you'd like to play, post a comment and I'll send you a letter for you to use in your own post of your 10 favorite things. She gave me the letter-she was going to give me "Z" If you play, I won't be so mean. I won't give out Q or X either.

So without further ado, here is my list:

1. Salvation: Mine, my hubby's, my son's (K hopefully one day)
2. Snow: When it's pretty and white and I don't have to drive in it. Do I have to be thankful for the dirty snow, too?
3. Slippers: If my feet are warm, I'm warm. If they are cold, I'm cold.
4. Songs: I'm sitting here listening to Christmas music. I love to listen to music-and a wide variety at that.
5. Sleep: Ever since I became a mommy, I like it more and more!
6. Soul-mate: I love my hubby! He is quite awesome!
7. Sidekicks: (another word for friends) and I have to include family in here cuz I couldn't find a word for family that starts with an S :) And besides I consider them my friends too.
8. Scrolls: (another word for books. Aren't I good?) I LOVE to read!
9. Scrapbooking: when I have the time and when it is all organized. Which right now, it is NOT!
10. Soup: I'm making broccoli cheddar cheese soup tonight, so it's on my mind. I've never made this soup before, so hopefully we won't be making an emergency run to McD's :) I'll let you know.

Whew! That's done! It was kinda fun though. Just harder than you think to make them all start with the same letter. I now have more respect for Pastor Schettler and all his alliteration.

Christmas shopping

Let me start out by saying--I hate crowds. Maybe I'm getting old? But there is one time a year that I like to go out in the midst of the crowds. And that is to Christmas shop. On Saturday, we went to a mall on the northside of Indy and did some Christmas shopping. We left around 9:30 and didn't get home until after 6. It was a long day, but we got a lot done. We only have a few more things to get and we all will be done with all of our shopping. Thank goodness! Now that I've had my one day of crowds, I'm done. Besides my feet were hurting by the end of the day. We did go out to eat at a favorite restaurant -- Carrabba's--since there isn't one close to us. K didn't get her nap and she was grumpy by early evening. Now she is all messed up as to her "nap" time. When she went to bed last night, she thought it was just her nap and wondered why it was dark. Today when she went for her nap, she wanted to brush her teeth and get her jammies on. And she keeps talking about a "nap." She is such a person of routine. Now I have only a few days to finish up, since we are having our family Christmas this Saturday. No pressure!

C's birthday party

C asked me today, "Mommy, Is it hard to believe that I'm almost 6 years old?" Yes it is hard to believe. I told him I remember when he was born and he said "Really?!?!"" In shock and disbelief. I find it hard to believe that I have a child who is almost 6. He may drive me nuts some days but he is very special to me. I love him dearly.
C wanted an Indiana Jones theme for his birthday party this year. Kinda funny since he's never seen any of the movies. Our friends (minus the Mrs.) came. Aunt Teena made the cake. She always does such a good job! C was most excited for the Indiana Jones whip that he has been wanting for a very long time. Here are a few pictures to show what the cake looked like and what he got as presents. We had a nice party. He had fun, I'm pretty sure.

NOEL

Daddy and I have a "tradition" of sorts around Christmas. I have these little wooden letters that spell the word "NOEL"Every year, I put these letters out as decoration. Have you ever noticed what Noel spells backwards? Every year, Daddy switches the letters when I'm not looking. I then switch them back when he's not looking. This goes on for as long as my Christmas decorations are out.C knows that we have this little thing going. This morning he was downstairs before me. When I got down, I noticed that he had gotten in on our thing. I knew for sure that it was him, because well.... just check the picture. He had spelled it wrong. I think it's cute that he has gotten in on it. So now there will be 3 of us trying to out do the others with changing the letters. Maybe when K is old enough she'll play along too. Fun!

Bob and Larry (and K's tree)

In a previous post I mentioned that we have a Bob and Larry nativity. My blog-savvy friend said she would like to see it. So here is a picture-just for her. Isn't it cute? Then, while we were at Wal-Mart today, I got K a tree for her room. C has one for his room. It is from my college days. Remember the little ones we used to set up in our college dorm? That's the one. Well of course, K wanted one. I had seen a pink one at W-M that I thought would be cute. It was--until I saw the price! $20. Even the W-M dude said "Wow I didn't know they were that much." So I found a silver one that was smaller and more in my price range $8.88 (ever wonder, why .88???) But it had no ornaments on it. So we got pretty pink balls and she picked out some white snowflake thingys. Thank goodness it came already strung with lights. So K helped me decorate it and we'll put it in her room tonight. I think it's kinda gaudily-pretty. The first picture isn't the best picture of the tree, but I really liked K's smile in it. The second picture shows the tree a little better, but K isn't looking at the camera. I can't win for losing.
